Returning to School - September 2020

Letter from Mr Rushforth, CEO of West Somerset Academies Trust

September Re-opening - Safety Plan

As you will be aware the Government has asked schools to reopen fully on Monday 7th September. It has been clearly set out that parents/carers are expected to return their child to school in September. There may be penalties for parents/carers who choose to keep their children at home.

The following points lay out the strategies we will use to ensure that our children and staff are safe, as we welcome our children back to school. These points are informed by DFE guidance and discussions with all staff. It is important for all of us to keep the risks in perspective whilst we diligently observe the hygiene rules laid out below.

What happens in school?

  • At school children will remain in year group ‘bubbles’.
  • Children will enter and exit the school at arranged times and by specific entrances - see below.
  • Children will be expected to wear school uniform.
  • Children will be expected to bring in their own pencil case including a pencil, pencil sharpener, ruler, rubber and colouring crayons/pencils.
  • A member of staff will be on duty to welcome the children at the start of the school.
  • On arrival children will wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds.
  • Children will be following a normal timetable.
  • A one-way system will be in place to move around the school.
  • All classrooms will have a sanitizer dispenser.
  • Children can have a cooked dinner or bring a packed lunch as normal.

Breakfast Club and Buccaneers will start the second week of term. For Buccaneers, children will be required to book a place for the whole half term. Following government guidelines, bookings will not be accepted on the day.

Whilst every effort will be made to ensure bubbles do not cross, we cannot guarantee this as children move around the school. The DfE guidance does state however that transmission of the virus if children pass in corridors is highly unlikely.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the last few months of the school and we appreciate all the hard work that many parents have put in with the home learning.
